This past week was a rollercoaster for Tomcat football, with thrilling moments and hard-fought battles against the Whitewright Tigers at multiple levels.
In a gripping varsity matchup, the Tomcats faced their fierce rivals, the Whitewright Tigers, falling just short with a final score of 21-17. The game was a nail-biter, filled with tension and excitement that had everyone on the edge of their seats, coming down to the last play. Donnie Hooten and Bobby Rogers each powered through for rushing touchdowns, igniting hopes of a comeback and energizing the crowd. Defensively, Ryan Dearmond and Bobby Rogers delivered standout performances, effectively disrupting Whitewright's offense and making critical stops throughout the game. Despite their valiant efforts, the Tomcats couldn't clinch the victory, leaving the team and its fans heartbroken but proud of their hard-fought battle in the Highway 11 Showdown.
The JV Football team faced a tough challenge, suffering their first loss of the season against Whitewright with a score of 32-3. Despite the setback, there were bright spots on defense. Ryon Cherry had a standout moment with a sack, while both Cain Pearson and Hayden Hilger each intercepted a pass.
In the middle school game, the Tomcats faced a challenging outing, falling to the Whitewright Tigers 40-14. Defensively, Levi Grisolia led the team in tackles, consistently making plays throughout the game. Zach "Big Red" Oates contributed with a crucial fumble recovery, providing a moment of momentum for the team. Offensively, Cameron Burgess stood out, leading the team in carries and total yards, capping off his efforts with a touchdown. The highlight of the night came from Holden Farris, who electrified the Tomcat side of the stadium with a thrilling 74-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Despite the tough results against Whitewright, the Tomcats are eager to regroup and focus on their next challenge. Come out and support the sub-varsity teams this Thursday, October 3rd, as they take on the Tioga Bulldogs at home. The middle school will start at 5:00 PM and the JV will follow. Then on Friday the 4th, make the trip to Tioga and watch the Tomcats square off with the Bulldogs at 7:00 PM.
