The Tom Bean Tomcats hit the road Friday night for a district matchup against the Alvord Bulldogs, and while the scoreboard showed a 49–42 loss, the fight and heart of this team told a different story. The Tomcats took some punches early, but battled back with grit and composure, showing the kind of resilience and character that defines Tom Bean Tomcat football.
Offensively, the Tomcats lit up the night once again, putting up 478 total yards, including a staggering 432 through the air. Quarterback Donnie Hooten delivered another stellar performance, completing 37 of 41 passes (90%) for 432 yards and 2 touchdowns, while also rushing for 2 more scores. His connection with his receivers was electric, Brayden Bomar led the charge with 11 receptions for 208 yards and a touchdown, and Camden Stephens added 11 receptions for 96 yards and another score. Dyson Farris (74 yards), Cain Pearson (31 yards), and Maguire Poole (7 yards) also made key contributions, while Dallas Peavey chipped in 15 rushing yards and Slayton Farris added a short touchdown run.
Defensively, the Tomcats found themselves in a slugfest against Alvord’s ground attack, giving up 504 total yards, but refusing to quit. The defense recorded 5 tackles for loss, 1 fumble recovery, and a defensive touchdown, with several standout performances: Tatum Hanson posted 15 tackles and 2 TFLs, Treyshaun West had 13 tackles, and Brayden Bomar added 11 tackles and a key pass deflection. Dallas Peavey made the play of the night on defense, forcing a fumble, recovering it, and taking it 67 yards to the house for a touchdown.
After six straight wins, this first loss is just a reminder of the standard this team has built and the drive they still have. The Tomcats will regroup, refocus, and return home this week to face Wolfe City, determined to protect home turf and bounce back stronger than ever.
