Friday night lights shined bright in Tom Bean Texas as the Tomcats and Wolfe City Wolves went head to head in a district showdown. Despite a valiant and relentless effort on both sides of the ball, the Tomcats came up just short, falling 42-35 in a hard fought battle that had the home crowd on its feet all night.
The Tomcats’ offense found its rhythm early, moving the ball efficiently through the air and on the ground. Quarterback Donnie Hooten turned in another impressive performance, completing 15 of 29 passes for 229 yards and 2 touchdowns. His top targets were Camden Stephens, who recorded 4 catches for 86 yards and a touchdown, and Brayden Bomar, who hauled in 3 receptions for 75 yards and a score. On the ground, Dallas Peavey continued to be a workhorse for the Tomcats, rushing 13 times for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns, giving the offense balance and energy throughout the night.
Defensively, the Tomcats were tested against a powerful Wolfe City rushing attack but showed toughness and resilience from start to finish. Tatum Hanson anchored the defense with 17 total tackles, while Dallas Peavey added 13 tackles, 1 TFL, and a forced fumble. Maguire Poole made his presence felt in the secondary with several key pass breakups and a blocked field goal recovery, while Dyson Farris came up with a crucial fumble recovery to keep the Tomcats in the fight. Special teams provided a spark with Brayden Bomar coming through for a blocked field goal and Chase Stratton contributing steady play throughout the night.
Despite the loss, the Tomcats once again displayed the toughness, discipline, and FAMILY mentality that define this program. The team will regroup and rise up this week as they prepare for another big district matchup on the road!
