In this week's recap of Tomcat Football, we take a look at the exceptional play of many of our players that combined for the multitude of success for each of our teams.
On the varsity level, Homecoming night proved to be an unforgettable event for the Tomcats, who steamrolled over Valley View High School with an impressive 64-7 victory, moving the Tomcats' record to 3-0. Maguire Poole would set the tone on the night by forcing a fumble on the opening kickoff. The Tomcats would go down and score on that drive and rest was history.
The game, marked by relentless offense and a stalwart defense, saw quarterback Donnie Hooten put on a show of brilliance. Hooten threw for six touchdowns and added one more on the ground, demonstrating exceptional versatility and precision. His performance was a key factor in the Tomcats’ offensive onslaught. The Tomcats’ offensive barrage was not solely the work of Hooten; contributions came from several key players. Dyson Farris, Maguire Poole, Hagen Darney, Garrett Kelly, Dallas Peavey, and Bobby Rogers each found the end zone, ensuring that the scoreboard remained heavily in the Tomcats favor.
The defense was equally effective, with Brody Pearson, Bobby Rogers, Garrett Kelly, and Tony De La Torre each snagging an interception, thus neutralizing any potential threat from Valley View. Valley View would end the night with 0 yards rushing and only 64 yards in the air.
The Tomcats JV team also had a stellar performance, defeating Valley View 35-6 to remain undefeated at 3-0. The Tomcats' offense was in high gear with Cain Pearson, Paxton Parrish, Ethan Halpain, and Slayton Farris all scoring touchdowns. Defensively, the Tomcats were formidable, forcing two turnovers and shutting down Valley View’s offensive efforts.
The Tomcat middle school team faced a tougher challenge, falling to the Valley View Eagles 38-6. Despite the loss, there were notable performances on both sides of the ball. Defensively, Joseph Valle, Cameron Burgess, and Levi Grisolia stood out with their tackling. On offense, Cale Dick led the charge with a powerful rushing attack, including a 40-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter, which was set up by a dynamic kickoff return from Dosson Chumbley.
It’s been a week of triumph and progress for Tomcat football, marked by standout performances and a collective team effort across all levels. With the varsity and JV teams showcasing their prowess and the middle school squad displaying resilience, the Tomcats are poised for continued success. We encourage everyone to support the teams as they face off against Prairiland this week. The middle school and JV will play at home against the Patriots on Thursday, September 19, with the first game starting at 5:00 PM. The varsity will then travel to Prairiland on Friday, September 20, to take on the Patriots starting at 7:30 PM.
